No Kazakh table is complete without baursak. They are made for weddings, funerals and everyday meals equally.
Deep-fried bread — puffy, golden pillows of yeast dough fried in oil until crispy outside and soft within. The essential bread of every Kazakh celebration and everyday meal.
Mix flour, yeast, water, sugar, salt, eggs and oil. Knead 5 minutes. Prove 1 hour.
Roll to 1cm thickness. Cut into squares or rounds.
Deep-fry at 170°C until golden on both sides, about 5 minutes.
Drain. Serve warm.
The dough should be well-proved — flat baursak means under-proved dough.
