Mulligatawny

Sri Lanka

Comes from the Tamil milagu and tannir. Victorian Britain went wild for it. Appears in Dickens and Seinfeld.

Pepper water — originally a thin Tamil pepper broth, transformed by the British into a thick curried soup that became one of the great dishes of the British Empire.
