One of North America's largest street festivals, filling Toronto's Greektown with food stalls, live music and crowds in the hundreds of thousands.
Toronto's Danforth Avenue is home to one of the largest Greek communities outside Greece itself, and each August the neighbourhood's main strip closes to traffic for what has grown into one of the largest street festivals in North America. Taste of the Danforth draws crowds regularly estimated in the hundreds of thousands over its three-day run.
The area's many Greek restaurants set up stalls along the street, serving souvlaki, loukoumades and grilled octopus alongside a wider mix of cuisines reflecting the neighbourhood's broader diversity. Live music stages, dancing and family activities fill the avenue from one end to the other.
What began as a modest neighbourhood event has become a genuine fixture of Toronto's summer calendar — a celebration of Greek-Canadian culture that has long since outgrown any one community and become a city-wide institution.
