One of Mexico's most significant indigenous cultural festivals, with Oaxaca's renowned food and mezcal tradition at its heart.
Guelaguetza is one of Mexico's most significant celebrations of indigenous culture, held each July in Oaxaca — a state widely regarded as having one of the country's richest and most distinctive culinary traditions, from its seven varieties of mole to its long tradition of mezcal production.
While the festival's dance and music performances from Oaxaca's different indigenous communities are the official centrepiece, the food and mezcal on offer throughout the city during Guelaguetza season have become just as central to why visitors travel for it.
