Held in Madison Square Park since 2003, this free festival brings well-regarded pitmasters from across the major American barbecue traditions — Texas, the Carolinas, Kansas City, Memphis — to serve New Yorkers who might otherwise never travel to sample them.
The format is straightforward: smokers set up throughout the park, each pitmaster serving their own regional specialities, letting visitors compare wildly different barbecue styles side by side in a single afternoon — a genuinely rare opportunity to taste the full range of American barbecue in one place.
