A Georgia festival celebrating the state's famously sweet Vidalia onion, protected by law to only be grown in a defined region.
Vidalia onions are sweet enough to eat raw, a quality attributed to the low-sulphur soil of a specific region of southeastern Georgia — and, remarkably, Georgia state law protects the name so that only onions grown in that defined area can legally be called Vidalia onions. The annual festival celebrates that unique agricultural identity.
Events include an onion-eating contest, a 5K "Onion Run", craft vendors and a parade, alongside plenty of dishes built specifically to showcase the onion's sweetness — a genuinely single-ingredient festival built around real regional pride.
