The Tunisian tajine is a baked egg and pastry dish. The confusion with the Moroccan clay pot stew is consistent.
Tunisian layered pastry — thin dough sheets layered with chicken, egg and cheese, baked until golden. A Tunisian tajine is completely different from a Moroccan one — it is a baked dish, not a stew.
Mix chicken, fried onion, harissa and half the cheese.
Layer 4 pastry sheets in a buttered baking dish, brushing each with butter. Add filling.
Mix remaining eggs with cheese. Pour over. Top with remaining pastry sheets.
Bake at 190°C for 30-35 minutes until golden.
Press the top pastry down firmly — it should adhere to the egg mixture.
