Japan's most popular fast food. Yoshinoya has served it since 1899.
Japanese beef and onion rice bowl — thinly sliced beef and onion simmered in a sweet soy and mirin sauce, served over steamed rice with pickled ginger.
Combine soy, mirin, sake and sugar. Bring to a simmer.
Add onion. Cook 3 minutes until soft. Add beef. Cook 2-3 minutes until just done.
Pour over rice. Top with pickled ginger.
The beef must be sliced paper thin — ask the butcher to slice it on a machine.
