Known in Brazil as tapioca doce or sagu, this pudding is a beloved home-style dessert, often one of the first sweets Brazilian children learn to help make.
A creamy, comforting Brazilian dessert made from tapioca pearls simmered slowly in sweetened coconut milk until glossy and thick — a nostalgic treat found in home kitchens and bakeries alike.
Drain the soaked tapioca pearls thoroughly.
Combine tapioca, coconut milk, milk, sugar and cinnamon stick in a saucepan.
Simmer gently over low heat, stirring frequently, for 20-25 minutes until the pearls turn translucent and the mixture thickens.
Remove the cinnamon stick, spoon into bowls, and top with desiccated coconut. Serve warm or chilled.
Stir frequently while it simmers — tapioca pearls settle and stick to the bottom of the pan easily.
